Chill Time
- Do keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible
- Do set the refrigerator temperature to the highest setting
- Don’t fill the refrigerator with foods or beverages that are not already frozen or, at least, cold
When the refrigerator is chilled
- Do fill the refrigerator with frozen or chilled food first
- Do fill the refrigerator with ambient temperature food at timed intervals and in smaller increments (10 lbs every two hours)
- Don’t load the refrigerator with ambient temperature beverages (or other liquids). Because of their density, liquids require the most energy to cool down
- Do use multiple small containers to chill liquids rather than one large container
- Do keep the temperature on the highest setting
- Do refill the ice trays and replenish the beverages at bedtime
- Do use an ice chest for drinks instead – especially if you’re entertaining a lot of people.
